Please see link below for more information:-

Get measles jabs to stop disease spreading – News & Features – Kent County Council

Across England, on average one in ten children are not up to date with their MMR vaccinations, with some areas of the country as low as two in five, putting thousands of children at risk of catching measles and the disease spreading in unvaccinated communities.

Just two doses of the MMR vaccine gives you and your family lifelong protection against catching measles. The first vaccine is given at age one year and the second at age 3 years and 4 months old. If you’ve missed any doses it’s not too late to catch up. Contact your GP Practice today to book an appointment to get up to date.

If you are unsure if you or your child are up to date check your child’s red book or GP records and make an appointment to catch up any missed doses.

SHINGLES ELIGIBILITY

The eligibility for a free NHS Shingles vaccine has changed from the 1st of September 2023

The Shingles vaccine helps protect you from shingles, a common, painful skin disease.

Previously, you could only have the shingles vaccine between the ages of 70 and 79. However anyone turning 65 on or after the 1st of September 2023 is able to get the vaccine after their birthday.

Please note that if you have your 65th birthday before the 1st of September 2023, you will have to wait until you are 70 to become eligible.  Eligibility will then be expanded to include everyone aged 60 and over by September 2033.

Shingles vaccination – all year round! Eligibility poster (publishing.service.gov.uk)

From September, the shingles vaccine will also be available to those aged 50 or over with a severely weakened immune system. Immunocompromised individuals who have already received 2 doses of their Shingles Vaccine do not need re-vaccination.

You do not need to get in touch with us to request a shingles vaccine as patients are contacted  when they become eligible. However if you are eligible and think you may have missed your vaccine, please contact the practice.

The shingles vaccine is given as a single injection into the upper arm. Unlike the flu jab, you’ll only need to have the vaccination once, and you can have it at any time of the year.

The practice has now reopened following a fire at Hawkinge Health Centre on Tuesday 19th December 2023. All relevant testing and checks has been carried our which has allowed us to reopen with the exception of the affected consulting room.

Please be aware there is a still a slight smell of smoke within the building and we have been advised this may linger for quite some time. Masks are available at reception if required.

We would like to thank our patients for the support and understanding during this difficult period.

FIRE AT THE PRACTICE – THE HAWKINGE HEALTH CENTRE BUILDING

On Tuesday 19th December 2023 there was a fire in one of the consultation rooms at Hawkinge Health Centre. The fire was contained to one room but unfortunately there has been substantial smoke damage throughout the building.

We have mobilised staff to work from other sites to provide a normal as possible service for our patients. We will continue to update via the alerts on this website.

Cleaning teams etc. are now working hard in the building to remove damage caused by the fire and to deep clean and remove the strong smell of smoke.

NEW SELF SERVICE MONITOR

We are pleased to introduce a new and easy to use self-service health monitor which patients are able to use any time at The Hawkinge Health Centre and this replaces the old blood pressure monitor.

The monitor can be found in reception on the left hand side as you walk in. Please see picture below. The monitor will measure:

  • Height
  • Weight
  • Blood pressure
  • Pulse rate
  • Calculate BMI

This information should ideally be updated every year so if you have not had this checked for a while, please use the monitor to have this done.

At the end, your results will be displayed on the screen and you will receive a printout to keep. The monitor will not say any of your readings aloud.

Your readings will automatically be saved to your medical records and the monitor will also advise you if any of the readings are out of range.

If you are unsure on how to use this please speak to one of our reception team.

This monitor is for the use of Hawkinge Health Centre patients only.
