FLU VACCINATION PROGRAMME 2006

Because of the world wide shortage of vaccines this year, the Department of Health has asked all surgeries to maximise the use of their supply of the vaccine. Patients will be offered a flu jab, between October and December, in an order of priority as directed by the Department of Health.

The categories are;

1 Any patient with:
Chronic respiratory disease including asthma (ONLY when regular continuous steroid treatment and /or hospitalisation is required).
Chronic Heart Disease
Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic Liver Disease
Diabetes
A weakened immune system
All those aged 65 years and over

2 Those living in long-stay care facilities

3 Carers

4 Health Workers

5 Any other groups considered to be at risk including those patients with well controlled asthma.
