Depression

The practice provides a comprehensive service for patients who suffer from depression. The service is provided by Helen, our specialist practice nurse who has been specifically trained in mental health. She is supported by Dr Robert Stewart, giving additional medical input as necessary.

If you think you have depression you should visit one of our GPs who may do a physical check and do some blood or urine tests to rule out other conditions.

There are no clinical tests for depression so detailed interviews and questionnaires are used in the diagnosis.

Patients who are suspected of suffering from depression will be offered an appointment with Helen who will have the time to perform a full assessment and the opportunity to discuss issues and concerns. This will allow the opportunity to discuss the diagnosis and options that the practice can offer our patient at this and subsequent review appointments.

Our patients have access to our practice based counselling service, antidepressant therapy as well as referral if necessary to the specialist mental health team.
