Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is an infectious disease of the airways and lungs. A new vaccine has been developed and will be introduced from September 2024 for older adults AND pregnant ladies from 28 weeks of pregnancy. It is a single dose vaccine given just once.
Who is Eligible to receive the vaccination?
Older Adults – Everyone turning 75 years old on or after the 01 September 2024 will be offered a single dose of RSV vaccine. This is because older adults are more at risk of serious complications from RSV. You can still get the vaccine up to the day before you turn 80. For this first year of the programme the vaccine will be offered to those who are already aged 75 to 79 years on 01 September 2024 as part of a catch up programme.
Pregnant Ladies – Pregnant Ladies from week 28 of their pregnancy will be offered the vaccine. If you do not hear from the practice and you reach 28 weeks of pregnancy please contact us to arrange an appointment at the surgery to receive your vaccine
